Global Summit of the School Meals Coalition

UN Nutrition is bringing together 11 nutrition policy professionals from 10 countries for a unique study visit to Brazil!

The goal is to create hands-on learning opportunities by exploring Brazil’s innovative nutrition programs. Each of these initiatives have made a real impact on the country’s nutrition outcomes. Participants will also engage in peer-to-peer learning, sharing ideas and developing an action plan with colleagues from around the world.

Following three days of program visits, the group will take part in the 2nd Global Summit of the School Meals Coalition. During the Summit, UN Nutrition will host a workshop where participants can reflect, exchange insights, and collaborate on strengthening nutrition policy in their own countries.

This initiative is made possible with funding from Irish Aid, and is facilitated by UN Nutrition, HDSFS Coalition, and the Government of Brasília.

More information coming soon.

Participants will attend a mix of events—including presentations, field visits, and policy labs in Brasilia, and the full School Meals Coalition Summit in Fortaleza. Each day will include a touch-point meeting with the accompanying facilitators to review learnings, share key takeaways, and identify areas of interest for further exploration.

On the last day, 20 September, following the official closing of the Summit, a learning workshop will be held. The workshop will help consolidate participants’ learning, explore leadership dimensions, and discuss how to apply newly acquired knowledge within their   specific country contexts to advance and accelerate nutrition integration. This includes identifying barriers, enablers, and practical steps toward implementation.

During this session, each participant will be supported to develop an individual reflection report, including a draft action plan to integrate select learnings into their work. Government official of Brazil will be invited to join the workshop to share insights on both technical and leadership topics.

As a follow-up to the workshop, a joint HDSFS-UNN webinar will be held to share key findings with a broader set of partners, including all member countries and entity partners of the HDSFS Coalition. This will help amplify the learnings and engage the wider network in discussion and reflection.

Hosted under the high patronage of the President of Brazil, the 2nd School Meals Coalition Global Summit will bring together leaders from member states, regional bodies, and partners such as UN organizations, international financial institutions and philanthropies, NGOs, research organizations, as well as parliamentarians, representatives of cities & municipalities, indigenous leaders, youth, and food systems coalitions.

Guided by the priorities established by the Taskforce of the Coalition, the 2-day summit (September 18-19) will showcase the progress made towards the Coalition objectives since the 1st Global Summit hosted by France in Paris. It will underscore how governments and partners are investing in school meal programmes as a powerful policy that can help galvanize global action on some of the key challenges of our time. It will provide a platform to nurture collaborations, and further mobilization & commitments for the next 2 years.
