The Coalition of Action on Healthy Diets from Sustainable Food Systems for Children and All (HDSFS), in the framework of the One Planet Network Sustainable Food Systems Programme (OPN SFSP), and in collaboration with the Government of Pakistan, has published a new case study highlighting the country’s ongoing efforts to transform its food system towards healthier and more sustainable diets.
Pakistan, an active HDSFS coalition country member and steering committee member, has made notable progress in shifting from a production-focused food system to a more inclusive, nutrition-sensitive approach. The case study explores how multisectoral collaboration across health, agriculture, education, climate, and social protection is helping address the country’s complex nutrition challenges, including all forms of malnutrition and diet-related non-communicable diseases.
Through concrete policy actions, institutional innovations, and initiatives such as revised dietary guidelines, healthy school meals, and nutrition-sensitive climate planning, Pakistan’s experience offers valuable lessons for countries pursuing integrated food systems transformation with a strong focus on nutrition across policy and action.
