Innovative and Successful Experiences in Latin America and the Caribbean for Better Nutrition

The Latin America and the Caribbean region (GRULAC) countries are addressing food security and nutrition through policy coherence to align agricultural, health, education, and social protection policies to create integrated strategies that ensure access to healthy diets and reduce malnutrition in all its forms. In this session, 11 countries shared programs and policies including the development of national food and nutrition plans, support for sustainable agri-food systems, and targeted social programs that address the needs of vulnerable populations that have helped reduce the prevalence of undernourishment in the region. Other contributions to public health nutrition shared during the event include the labeling of processed food products, cookbook of ancestral foods, recovery of agricultural production and nutrition with the knowledge of indigenous people and farm to school meal programs through sustainable procurement systems. Governments across the region have implemented strategies to improve access to healthy diets, reduce food inequality, and strengthen resilience to extreme weather events, economic crises, and more. Through participation in Rome Nutrition Week, GRULAC aims to share experiences and good practices that serve as examples to help build a world moving toward better nutrition, where the right to food is guaranteed in every corner of the planet.
