Strengthening the Nutrition Economy: The Paris Declaration on Business & Nutrition 2030

Organizer: Access to Nutrition Initiative (ATNI), Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Business Network

The private sector plays a pivotal role across the global food system - from farming and processing to retail and distribution. As producers of the majority of food we consume, businesses hold significant potential to increase access to affordable, nutritious diets. However, current market incentives are misaligned with public health goals, contributing to an overabundance of unhealthy foods and limited availability of nutritious alternatives.

This event, hosted at FAO, explored what it would take to reshape the economy to work for nutrition. Speakers examined the roles various stakeholder groups - including the private sector – have to play in reshaping markets, and emphasized the importance of engaging the private sector in ways that are purposeful, transparent, accountable, and informed by the specific objectives and context of the engagement.

As part of the event, ATNi presented on the Paris Declaration on Business & Nutrition 2030, which outlines a roadmap for realigning business incentives and investment flows towards a more equitable and nutrition-focused food economy.
